SHAKER: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #667 GABRIELE DELL’OTTO 1:100 VARIANT (MARVEL, 2011) Behold, the one true King of Incentive Variants! Today a CGC 9.6 sold for $14,500. This is not one of those variants where multiple copies mysteriously pop up and flood the market (like the 2011 Venom Variants did a year or so ago). It’s rare and still remains so today. The last 9.6 that sold for this book was back in November 2017 and sold for $8K. Heck, a 9.4 sold for $13,300 in January 2019. Could a 9.8 hit $20K? We think so. Spider-Man is one of the most collected comic characters in all of comics. So when you create a variant that requires retailers to order 100 copies of the standard cover at Spidey’s lowest print run ever, you get crazy prices like this. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER: VENGEANCE OF MOON KNIGHT #1 DAVID FINCH MRRC VIRGIN VARIANT (MARVEL, 2009) While this can’t touch the Spidey Dell’Otto, if there’s a candidate to one day catch up to it, it’s this book. This variant has been pricey and hard to find for years. Today, a high grade raw sold for $2,299.99. However, this isn’t the highest sale ever. That goes to a sale in April 2019 for $2,999.99 raw. We have only tracked one graded sale of a CGC 9.8 and that went for $2,100 in April 2018. There are a grand total of 4 copies on the CGC census: two 9.8’s, one 9.6 and one 9.4. Based on how many MRRC (Marvel Retailer Resource Center) members there were at this time, this had an estimated print run between 150 to 300 copies. So where are all of these now? If a book like this can disappear into collections in 10 years, imagine what some of today’s books with even lower printings will do. What variants will be impossible to find by 2029? It’s a huge rabbit hole that you can really fall into. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER: SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH #47 (ARCHIE, 2003)  This issue is the new addition to the “Archie Bikini” trend. This has truly been an “out of the blue” trend lately. Multiple Archie comics that feature Veronica, Betty and now Sabrina in bikinis are spiking in price. For example, this book rarely sold previous to today’s sale of $39.94. When it did sell, it merely went for $3. That’s a significant bump. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER: MORTAL KOMBAT: BARAKA #1 ONE SHOT (MALIBU, 1995) We’ve passed over tons of these Mortal Kombat books in dollar bins through the years. We sure didn’t anticipate the video game comic market to heat up like it is now. This hard to find one-shot is now hitting $48 raw. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER: SPAWN #222 TODD MCFARLANE B&W VARIANT (IMAGE, 2012) It’s absolutely impossible to ignore Spawn… and we really try to. However, every week there’s some Spawn issue spiking in price. Today, this variant shot WAY up with today’s raw sale of $550. For the past year, as recent as June, this was selling for $150. Heck, the last 9.8 sold in Dec. 2018 went for $132. For years, this issue’s go-to variant has belonged to the Kudranski Variant (and it still does). However, while that continues to be out of reach, collectors are now looking closer at this B&W variant as they build their B&W Spawn sets.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER: BATMAN: DAMNED #1 ADVANCED EDITION (DC, 2018) Last week we listed BATMAN: DAMNED as a “tumbler” with 10.0’s selling for under $200. However, this Advanced edition is definitely hard to find and still commands a premium. A 9.8 sold today for $1,999.99. The highest sale belongs to a CGC 9.9 that went for $10K in March 2019. Raws range between $200 to $350, varying greatly due to condition. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER/ HOT: RED HULK #1 (MARVEL, 2008) Out of the D23 She-Hulk news has emerged rumors around Thunderbolt Ross taking the mantle of RED HULK within the series, as he did in 2008 within this issue (though he wasn’t revealed to be Thunderbolt Ross until issue #22 on the last page). While this has always floated around $10 to $15, today’s raw sale of $21.84 is a cautious market bump. It’s not skyrocketing, however if the rumors are true, then these will. We would be shocked if you haven’t come across this issue in a $1 bin. Time to do some digging! There are some great variants for this issue as well. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER/ HOT: SPIDER-MEN II #1 JULIAN TOTINO TEDESCO 1:50 VARIANT (MARVEL, 2017) This issue marks the first appearance of the “Evil” Miles Morales doppelganger. Evil Miles is rumored to be the same Miles doppelganger in Donnie Cates’ ABSOLUTE CARNAGE series. With that speculation, prices have jumped for this variant. Today, a CGC 9.8 sold for $499, after another 9.8 sold for $415 yesterday. The last 9.8 sold in April for $150. So, this is a great bump in price. Raws have jumped from $50 to $115. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER: THE UNCANNY X-MEN #510 J. SCOTT CAMPBELL 2009 CONVENTION SKETCH VARIANT (MARVEL, 2009) Lot’s of big variant sales this week! Like we mentioned with the Moon Knight MRRC, how does this Heroes Con in Charlotte & San Diego Comic Con exclusive dry up to the extent is has now, where it sells for $7,999.99 for CGC 9.6? This is a new height for a 9.6, toppling the last sale of $6K in April 2019. The highest sale ever belongs to a CGC 9.8 in September 2018 for $13K.  Love or hate Campbell’s style, this cover is gorgeous and is a favorite among many collectors. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER: HOUSE OF M #4 GENE HA 2ND PRINT (MARVEL, 2005) Layla Rose Miller, also known as Butterfly, first appeared in this issue of House of M #4. Layla played a large role in Peter David’s X-Factor series. She’s recently featured in Marvel’s HOUSE OF M series as Butterfly, sending collectors to pick up her first appearance. With some light heat, this hard to find 2nd print sold a CGC 9.8 for $319.99. Keep in mind that raws are still selling for $3 to $4. Go figure. We love the Peterson variant.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER/ HOT: VENGEANCE #1 MIKE DEODATO 1:25 VARIANT (MARVEL, 2011) We’ve mentioned this variant of the first appearance of America Chavez multiple times now (as recent as two weeks ago). America Chavez is rumored to be weaved into the MCU in the near future. It’s unknown if this will be within an MCU feature or within a Disney+ show (like WHAT IF?). Regardless, this hit a new height of $1K for a CGC 9.8. Amazing!  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER/ HOT: AMAZING FANTASY #15 (MARVEL, 2006) This is the first appearance of Amadeus Cho (later known as Totally Awesome Hulk… then Prince of Power… and most recently as Brawn). Like RED HULK, he’s also rumored to join She-Hulk in her Disney+ series. This hit an all-new height with today’s CGC 9.8 sale for a huge $600! (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

Sunday, 9/1/19

SHAKER: HAUNT OF FEAR #6 & #13 (EC, 1951 & 1952) Both of these books sold CGC 9.8 Gaines File Copies today… AND both sold for $4,400. These EC pre-code books rarely come up for sale, let alone in high grade and with prestige like a Gaines File copy. For those of you who don’t know, Bill Gaines was the publisher of EC for over 40 years. From 1950 to 1955, he filed 12 pristine copies of almost every issue published by EC Comics. When Bill passed away in 1992, this collection (each wrapped carefully in brown paper) were discovered and is now known to be the most pristine EC collection known in comics. SHAKER: ALL-NEW MARVEL NOW POINT ONE #1 STEVE MCNIVEN 1:75 VARIANT (MARVEL, 2014) Collector’s have really taken to this particular “full first appearance of Kamala Kahn as Ms. Marvel” over many of her other key issues. For years,  Captain Marvel #17 was the go-to “first” appearance of Kamala. Then Kelly Sue DeConnick confirmed that she first appeared in Captain Marvel #14 and then THAT issue started heating up and sent the variant into insane heights. Of which it still ranks as the MOST valuable Kamala Kahn book. Now the market is beginning to turn to this variant with today’s CGC 9.8 sale of $2K. However, this isn’t even the highest sale. That belongs to a CGC 9.8 back in January 2019 for $2,800. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)
