COVRPRICE DAILY SHAKERS

SHAKER: THE WITCHER #1 SAKAI VARIANT (DARK HORSE, 2014)  THE WITCHER is coming to Netflix in just a couple weeks. Usually, by now, hard to find variants (like this) are drawn out as content is released. However, this variant isn’t ANY easier to find. The fact that a 9.2 sold this week for $100 tells you how desperate some collectors are for a decent copy. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  HULK #1 HERO INITIATIVE ATOMIC COMICS VARIANT (MARVEL, 2008)  This book is starting to move with rumors of RED HULK appearing at some point in this next wave of Marvel Films & TV. This first appearance of RED HULK has several great covers. However, this Atomic/Hero Initiative seems to be the “go-to” variant as it hit a new raw high of $71. A 9.8 also sold this week for $227. However, that’s down significantly from its high sale just this last month for $500 in a 9.8. Perhaps that $227 was just a good buy and should be in our “deal of the week” section? (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  EXILES #9 RAHZZAH VARIANT (MARVEL, 2018)  This issue marks the first time Valkyrie was re-designed to look like her Tessa Thompson MCU film version. This variant is the best of the bunch and clearly shows her in a solo/action cover. While it’s highest raw sale ever went for $95, this week’s $75 seems to be the more consistent price. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  MISTER MIRACLE #1 (MARVILA #191) SPANISH VERSION (NATIONAL PERIODICAL EDITORIAL NOVARO, 1971)  Foreign versions of key books are all the rage amount big collectors lately. They’re incredibly hard to find, let alone in anything decent in condition. However, this rare Marvila #191 reprint of Mister Miracle #1 just popped up for the first time (in a LONG time) and sold for 699.99 raw. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  RICK AND MORTY: POCKET LIKE YOU STOLE IT #1 NERD BLOCK VARIANT (ONI, 2017)  When this recalled variant was announced to have had all copies (except for a handful of comp copies) destroyed, values rose pretty quickly. In 2017, this hit a high of $1,500 for a CGC 9.8. However, as the show went into hiatus, values plummeted to as low as $525 for a 9.8. With the show back, this is starting to trend upwards again with recent sales hitting $800 and now $960 for 9.8’s. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  CARE BEARS #1 75 CENT CANADIAN NEWSSTAND (MARVEL, 1985)  Take a good long Care Bear Stare at this week’s raw sale of $455.01 for this scare Canadian price variant. We would have been shocked if that was a CGC 9.8 sale, but raw? Wow.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  DEADPOOL #45 TONY MOORE 1:100 VARIANT (MARVEL, 2015)  Deadpool has a lot of wacky covers that are often hit or miss. This homage Tony Moore cover to the Death of Wolverine is pretty fun. However, it took a while for this book to trend. This week’s $175 raw sets it on the shelf with its #45 variant brothers (ie. 2011’s 1:50 Mark Brooks Variant, and the same issue’s Skottie Young “Run the Jewels). (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  SPAWN #1 NEWSSTAND VARIANT (IMAGE, 1992)  Spawn is hot, we all know this by now. But $167.50 for NM raw copy? That’s quite a jump from the average $50 sales this usually gets.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  WOW COMICS #1 (FAWCETT, 1943)  This is simply a classic Mary Marvel cover that we’ve never been able to catch a sale for… until this week when a CGC 6.0 sold for $1,500.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

SHAKER:  WALKING DEAD #1 LAST WINE VARIANT (IMAGE, 2019) ‘Last Wine” is the name of the maker that produces actual bottles of Red Wine with THE WALKING DEAD branding (and it’s pretty darn good too). This, of course, was a rare promotional reprint of Walking Dead #1 that was distributed to liquor/ wine stores. So, if you’re buddies with your wine shop… it doesn’t hurt to ask. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

RUMORED / OPTIONED

RUMORED/OPTIONED: RENFIELD #1 (CALIBER, 1994)  So, yes… this IS a comic called RENFIELD, though it has nothing to do with the Universal film that Director Dexter Fletcher is making (see the Variety article here).  However, there is a comic connection since the film is based on a pitch that Robert Kirkman presented to Universal that he and his production team (David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst) are producing. So, this is one comic pick-up that you can skip.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

RUMORED/OPTIONED: ELRIC #1 (PACIFIC, 1983)  DEADLINE announced that THE ELRIC SAGA is being adapted for TV. This still has to be developed and shopped. Which means, you have plenty of time to pick up copies before it finds a home.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

BOOKS THE WATCHER WATCHES

WATCHING: NEW MUTANTS #98 (MARVEL, 1991) Okay, hear us out here. YES, we’re watching NEW MUTANTS #98 again. While Deadpool plans are still unconfirmed, he’s still too darn successful of a franchise for Disney to ignore. For a book that was selling over $1K in a 9.8 pre DEADPOOL #1, this week’s 9.8 sale for $610 seems like a bargain. If it stays around here (and even goes down any more), now’s a great time to pick up a copy. Once Disney figures out how to include Mr. Pool into the MCU, this 1st appearance of everyone’s favorite Merc with a mouth could see some insane new highs. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

WATCHING: PLANET COMICS #1 (BLACKTHORNE, 1988)  As massive fans of Dave Stevens, we’ve been watching this book for a while. This is a fantastic cover that more collectors are beginning to chase. This week’s new high of $280 for a CGC 9.8 just may end up seeming like a deal in the near future. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

DEALS OF THE WEEK

Pricey books don’t always go for pricey amounts. Sometimes, rare books can end up selling for a significant discount.

DEALS: HARBINGER #1 (VALIANT/ 1992)  With Harbinger moving to Universal, you would think that would breathe new life into a property that was previously stuck at Sony Pictures. However, the move (instead) made collectors question the investment. This week, we saw one of the lowest 9.8 sales in quite a while at $698 (almost half of its height of $1,299 in June 2018). With the Valiant universe now broken up, it doesn’t instill a lot of long-term faith in this book. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

KEYS OF THE WEEK:

KEYS:  HANNA-BARBERA SCOOBY DOO… WHERE ARE YOU! #1 (WESTERN, 1970) This first appearance of SCOOBY-DOO (and gang) received a nice (okay HUGE) jump in price, thanks to the new Animated Film. This week a VF raw copy sold for $909 when similar copies were only selling for $200 before the new trailer hit. (Find on eBay)

KEYS: BETTY & VERONICA #320 (ARCHIE, 1982)  We’re not sure if this is heat from the recent Betty & Veronica trend, OR Cheryl Blossom heat (whose first appearance is in this issue). Regardless, it hit an all-time NM raw high sale of $499.99 this week. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

KEYS: WEREWOLF BY NIGHT #32 – BRITISH PRICE “PENCE” VARIANT (MARVEL, 1975)  This first appearance of MOON KNIGHT got a big new top sale for this Pence Price variant at $3,237.87 for a CGC 9.4.  (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)
