Amelia has a bitterly disappointing visit with her father in New York, but the Gurley Girls ask Tanner to tour with them as their opener. Amelia invites Kyle to their first concert together, but once again he arrives with another girl. On the day of Tanner's departure Kyle and Amelia quarrel in the park, but when he breaks his leg she stays with him until help arrives, missing Tanner's departure. Tanner leaves a loving letter promising Amelia a gift, which turns out to be her dad, who was quit his job and rented Tanner's house so as to be near once again to his daughter.; Mr. McBride encourages Tanner to resume performing; she won't, but does make a CD of her song for all of Amelia's guests. She's a hit when she goes to Amelia's class for career day, and even asks the teacher out on a date -- much to the fury of Amelia's mother.; Mrs. McBride and Tanner embark on a days-long running battle, leaving Amelia in despair. This only deepens when Kyle invites her to the mall, then shows up with Joan. It gets worse yet when Amelia makes a fool of herself before her friends. At home she blows up at the two sisters, who finally realize they need to reconcile, and begin laughing together.; Tanner and Mrs. McBride host an 11th birthday party for Amelia. Amelia's dad brings Sunday from New York City, all the girls sleep over, and Tanner sings a song she composed for Amelia.; Amelia dreams of never growing up, but recognizes that that's not what she wants. She learns that Joan and Kyle had only met at the mall by happenstance, and discovers that Hannigan had uploaded Tanner's music CD to the Internet, where it has rapidly become a hit. Mr. Henderson assigns journal writing, into which Amelia plunges enthusiastically -- until she realizes that nothing she's written is anything she dares to share.
