While researching a paper on the Civil War for history class, Betty runs across a diner on a deserted road. Entering the diner transports her back to 1864, where she meets and aids her ancestor, Confederate drummer boy William T. Beal.; Betty teaches Miss Grundy that a good auto mechanic is invaluable. Miss Grundy teaches Betty that it isn't improper to profit from your talent. And they both teach Mr. Weatherbee not to underestimate women.; Betty spends an energetic afternoon trying to keep up with eight year old Trisha, the girl she's babysitting.
