However the pro gets picked to coach a junior tour in Australia, so Veronica has to bribe Jughead to take her to the dance.; Veronica and Betty demonstrate their different approaches to car repair: Veronica knows nothing about it, Betty knows too much.; After meeting Pop Tate's gorgeous nephew Bill, Veronica tricks Archie into insisting that she should go on a date with Bill.; Betty and Veronica begin teasing Archie at the beach to try to get him to show some life.; Tryouts for the cheerleading squad have been announced. Betty and Veronica are both going to try for captain of the squad. Mr. Lodge mentions that boys were on the cheerleading squad when he was young. At the girls' request, Mr. Lodge shows them some cheers (and almost hurts himself in the process). After the tryouts, Betty catches up with Archie and Jughead and announces that she's the captain. When Archie asks where Veronica is, Betty tells them that she didn't try out because it was raining and she didn't want to get her outfit wet.; Veronica gets suckered into trying to teach Mr. Weatherbee's niece how to dance, so she gets the idea of suckering Betty into taking over for her.; Betty is an outstanding surfer, but Veronica gets Archie to pay attention to her by saying she needs him to help her with her surfing.; Reggie wins a race with Archie, with the privilege of dating Veronica as the prize. Veronica thinks it's great, until her father sets her straight.; Archie is the umpire in the girls' baseball game.; Betty tricks Veronica into volunteering to have tarts thrown at her in Jughead's booth at the Riverdale Charity Carnival.; Veronica tricks Betty into ruining her hair in the ocean, while her own hair is protected by a wig-style bathing cap.; Jinx uses two trash can covers as a fly swatter.; Veronica tries to teach Betty to play it cool around handsome strangers.; Betty misses a fly ball because she has to apply moisturizer.; Betty and Veronica can't decide on what hairstyle to wear.; Archie and Veronica are watching TV late at night with the volume too high. Mr. Lodge gets angry and shoots the television with a shotgun.; Jinx leaves muddy footprints when she comes in the house.; Archie's father can't make a putt.; Jughead decides to leave the Choklit Shop to watch the sparks fly when Archie and Reggie both show up for a date with Veronica.; Archie takes Veronica to a fancy French restaurant, but is in trouble when the menu is written in French.; While waiting for others at a party, Jughead practices throwing nuts in the air and catching them in his mouth.; Veronica talks about the party she's throwing--just for Archie.; Betty is happy to see Veronica leave on a cruise, because that means she'll have Archie to herself.; Betty and Veronica both criticize a dress in a store window, hoping to discourage the other so they can buy it for themselves.; Reggie tries to hit on Midge while Moose is out water-skiing.; Li'l Jinx comes up with a plan to increase lemonade sales.; Veronica keeps giving Archie photos of herself.; Betty observes the different surfboards that the boys use.; Veronica is angry with Archie for taking Betty's part in an argument, even though Betty was right.; Jughead is running the Choklit Shop because Pop Tate can't fit behind the counter.; Hot Dog guards first base so opposing baserunners can't get to it.; Jinx and Greg are arguing when it starts to rain. They continue the argument by phone from their houses.; Veronica pulls tricks to get attention from Archie.
