Polly identifies the new monsters as rapscallions -- aggressive vegetation that rapidly overwhelms all before it. They fight in vain until Hilo discovers a new power -- the ability to freeze things, which neutralizes the rapscallions. Polly returns to her own world just before Hilo is attacked by a greatly-enlarged Beamer... now possessed by Razorwark.; Hilo battles Razorwark as D.J. and Gina send the rapscallions back to their own dimension. But when Gina gets caught up with them, neither of the boys can save her. Razorwark forces Hilo to remember that he was originally created to be Razorwark's greatest weapon, fighting against humans rather than for them. Hilo drives Razorwark back into Limbo for the time being, but only at the cost of killing the possessed Beamer. Hilo promises D.J. that the two of them will find Gina, but before they can act they are surrounded by the army.; Hilo dreams of Dr. Horizon, which makes him remember that neither he nor Razorwark wants robots to be hurt. They are the only robots who feel emotions, but Razorwark wants to destroy humans, while Hilo protects them. Gina fears that the world will soon know of Hilo's nature, and also fears that he could be dangerous inadvertently... which D.J. refuses to believe. Hilo confesses to D.J. that he is often afraid, except that he knows D.J. will always come to help him. As more and more portals open around town the team spreads out, using Hilo's devices to send the monsters back.; Hilo cheerfully tries to fit in as a human kid, with uneven success. D.J. often ends up fighting on Hilo's behalf even though Hilo doesn't need to be defended. Hilo defeats a strange invading robot, but tells his friends that from now on he only stops robots without hurting them.; Another portal releases monsters into the world, this time pursued by magical warrior cat Polly, who announces that in thanks for Hilo's assistance she will remain in this world for a time and aid him. When Lisa makes her way into the underground lab she is thrilled to learn of Hilo's origin, and insists that she join the band defending Earth from Razorwark.; The teams are successful at intercepting monsters and sending them back to their own dimensions, but more keep coming, including a crowd that manifests at D.J.'s house.; Hilo returns to Earth in pieces, but easily reassembles himself. He closes down a threatening portal, trapping Razorwark in Limbo. Since he can't get back to his own world he decides to stay, much to D.J.'s delight. But something strange squeezes through the portal without their noticing.; D.J. tricks the monsters at his house, and traps them in the empty swimming pool until they can be sent back to their own dimensions. D.J.'s family finally learn all the facts about Hilo and the monster attacks, and they're surprisingly supportive. But now the friends face a monster so big that it becomes a field.; Hilo spends as much time as he can at D.J.'s house, where little Lisa has fallen in love with him, not that he notices. He has also surreptitiously bought a house of his own, and built a very limited robot to present itself as his Uncle Trout.; Hilo shows Gina and D.J. his secret underground laboratory, where he is trying to rebuild enemy robots, so that he can learn more of his own history. He's cobbled together a limited-function robot named Beamer, and has also invented a device to locate robots and send them back to their original worlds.
