In one universe, six members of the Legion of Super-Heroes are crossing time in a time bubble when they find themselves caught, as if in a timestorm. In another universe, the crew of the Starship Enterprise heads for Earth so that Captain Kirk can give the commencement speech at this year's Starfleet Academy graduation ceremony. Both groups arrive on Earth in the 23rd century, but in a universe not their own.
