By Lefteros
This is my kind of NCBD! We have a lineup with a ton of variety. Just like with our FOC articles, we will try to make them more concise and quicker to read while still providing the information you need to know before hitting your favorite comics shop for NCBD. Let's get into it!
COVRPRICE TIP: Below are some of this week's releases sorted by the highest market value. If you visit the NEW RELEASE section, you can filter by "Est Value (Highest to Lowest)." Make sure to check it out before heading to your local comic shop. If you miss something, no worries! We have a DAY AFTER WEDNESDAY article every Thursday, highlighting the best new release trends. Don't forget to check in regularly to see the current Fair Market Value (FMV) with our handy dandy comic book price guide for each comic book.
OPEN ORDER SELECTIONS
BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES #4 COVER A PARTICK HORVATH | IDW PUBLISHING
This book continues to impress, not just by increasing readership through word of mouth with every issue but also by performing pretty well on the aftermarket. It seems like there are not enough copies to go around, and that's likely because more and more readers are jumping on. The last issue was the first one that didn't gain traction on release, so seeing what happens with this one will be interesting!

DAWNRUNNER #1 COVER E EVAN CAGLE VIRGIN VARIANT | DARK HORSE
When two great talents like Ram V and Evan Cagle come together for a sci-fi epic like this, it's always worth picking up, even just to read, but there is more to this one. This particular variant, which is just a virgin version of Cover A, was announced very close to FOC. As a result, it was not on PreviewsWorld, and many did not have the opportunity to preorder it. There are just a handful of copies on eBay at the moment, and if this title takes off, this may be the variant people are looking for!

STAR WARS JANGO FETT #1 MAIN COVER | MARVEL
As you would expect from a Star Wars first issue, this one has a first appearance. It's a droid that hands out bounties to bounty hunters. Droids have long lifespans that can span across multiple eras, making them decent spec pickups. You may want to scoop up a copy, just in case!

It is another Star Wars selection and another first appearance. This one features the first appearance of a mysterious unnamed child in a cameo at the end. Even her face is covered by a ninja-looking mask. I'll be curious to see who she turns out to be as we learn more in upcoming issues. Like the last selection, you may want to scoop one up just in case!

I have been waiting for this novel adaptation to yield something notable, and I am fairly certain this is the first issue to do so. It introduces us to a new race for the first time in comic books called the Grysk. According to Thrawn himself, they are a species living somewhere in the Unknown Regions. How will introducing a race do in-terms of spec even if they appear in an upcoming Thrawn live-action movie or show? That remains to be seen, but if you're someone who likes picking up Star Wars books like this, then it's a no-brainer!

This is easily my personal favorite selection this week! I badly want a Takashi Okazaki Star Wars Ronin mini-series or ongoing series. This character and the non-cannon mythos he has created around him are incredible. Yes, this book introduces a new Sith Master, but what makes it so great is the artwork and incredible storytelling. The fact that you don't need to be a Star Wars expert to jump in and enjoy this book is why I recommend anyone and everyone who loves great comic books to check this out!

WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #1 MAIN COVER | MARVEL
We knew this book was slated to feature some surprises and likely some first appearances or introductions. It delivered. First, we have a new Spider-Verse villain - a mysterious Gwen Stacy, who has taken on the Green Goblin and squares off with Spider-Man 2099. The way she is presented makes her seem like she will be a pretty major player in upcoming Spider-Verse storylines. Plus, we have brief cameos of five New Champion Variant characters. They include the Hulk, Cap-Wasp, Captain Marvel, Moon Knight, and my personal favorite, Thor “sidekick” characters. Although they made a cameo appearance in Timeless a few months ago and this is their second cameo appearance (outside of the Hulk), the variants that feature these characters are worth keeping a close eye on in the coming weeks and months!

LATER PRINT SELECTIONS

It's interesting to see an open-order design variant for a second printing. We don't see those often, that's for sure. Although this one has an incentive attached to it, it caught my eye because it features two sketches of Glory Grant and Joy Mercado. Two Earth-616 supporting characters that will no doubt have Earth-6160 versions introduced soon!

ULTIMATE X-MEN #1 2ND PRINT RB SILVA | MARVEL
The first printing came out, the reception was good, and it was sold out at distribution weeks before it even hit the stands. Marvel projected a sell-out so early that this one had FOC just a couple of weeks after the first printing and well before the first printing was released. Looks like Peach Momoko's first issue is a real hit. It's no surprise to see it get the RB Silva treatment, who has provided second printing cover art for both Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Black Panther. It is hard to tell, but all three of those covers connect. This one has no incentives attached; making a second printing, I think, is worth picking up!

COVER SELECTIONS
What better way to appreciate and honor a legend like William Shatner than to feature him on a Dan Mora variant depicting him leading the Justice League? I am a huge fan of his, and I love Dan Mora's celebrity variants, so this is a variant I had to have!

What can we say about this variant that it doesn't say for itself? John Giang hit this out of the park, and the fact that it is open-order means we can all pick up a copy and enjoy it!

I am so happy to see Todd McFarlane doing more work on Spawn covers and Jim Lee getting some new DC Comics Artist Spotlight Variants. This one has Todd inks on Brett Booth pencils on a virgin cover and features high-quality printing. The cover alone is worth the $2.99 price tag!

TMNT UNTOLD DESTINY OF THE FOOT CLAN #1 COVER C J, GONZO DIA DE LOS MUERTOS VARIANT | IDW PUBLISHING
It's time to complete our Day of the Dead TMNT variant collection with the last installment featuring Donatello. These variants have been hot since the day of release, and while this one likely saw the most preorders, I can still see it doing just as well as the others!

Another stunning Women’s History Month Variant by Sozomaika! Next up, Harley Quinn!

INCENTIVE SELECTIONS
If the open order for this one had at least a foil, you could maybe see people ordering up to 25 copies of it to qualify for this incentive, but it did not. As a result, this one is looking scarce and selling well over double the ratio. I love the Jack O'Lantern, but I can't justify spending that much on a facsimile ratio. However, if you can score one for the ratio price, go for it!

Captain Marvel incentives featuring great artists and great depictions like this one are bound to explode late in her run. No Artist or Retailer Exclusive Variants, plus great cover art featuring a fan favorite cover character, is a good recipe for a trending book. If you can get one of these for ratio, do not hesitate!

I love these two creators; this is the high ratio for their latest creation. I don't think too many shops order 25 copies of a ratio like this, so if the series takes off, it should do pretty well. This is also the kind of book you can get lucky with and find for a good price. If you are interested in this series, this one should be worth considering!

For me, Dune is a lot like Star Trek when it comes to comics. I love the property in other media but not so much in comics. But occasionally, a variant like this one comes out, and I just have to have it. This variant seems scarce right now, and although there are very few copies on eBay, the ones that are there are not selling for much. If you want one, keep your eyes open!

There's nothing to see here; it's just another Thrawn incentive that looks scarce on release. Even the first issue, 1:25, is holding up pretty well, and that book had a 1:100. At this point, if you can secure any of them as a preorder or on release for $20 to $25, you can do pretty well on them!

Somehow, with two beautiful incentives, this one and the 1:25, this book did not attract any Artist or Retailer Exclusive Variants. Most impressive! Pair that with the fact it's an incredible comic book and the high ratio virgin for a wicked cover, and you have a book that is trending close to the $200 mark. Stay patient if you want a copy of this one, but if you can secure it at the ratio price, go for it!

It looks like this second printing managed to have a short enough window between the announcement and FOC to not have any Artist or Retailer Exclusive Variants attached to it. If you can secure a copy of this one, it would look great beside the 1:25 for the first issue's second printing. It holds good aftermarket value, so this is worthwhile at the ratio price!

When you have a book with a sky-high cover price and only one ratio, that's also a one-shot; safe to say supplies will be somewhat limited. Yes, many shops ordered 25 despite the high cover price, but demand is also high because this is a notable Spider-Verse book. As a result, sales on eBay are all over the map. Shops are uploading copies for $20 to $25 that are getting snatched up in a blur, and many others are selling for between $40 and $50. It will be interesting to see where this ends up when the dust settles. For now, it's a good value if you can score one at ratio!

That's it for this week, folks! As usual, we hope we have provided some of the information you need to make the right decisions for yourself for this NCBD. Happy hunting!
