The shadow belongs to an old hermit that warns Jughead and Betty of the leaf monster. As Archie and Veronica are having some private time, Archie sees the Leaf Monster out the window. As he and Veronica give chase, the sheriff shows up and warns the teens about the crazy monsters that have shown up since the school's opening. The hermit disappears, and the gang develops some odd, new phrases like "Jinkies!" and "Zoinks!". Even Hot Dog starts to talk, saying phrases like "RUH-ROH!"; Veronica escapes the Leaf Monster and the kids race outside only to find 3 more leaf monsters. However, the real Sheriff shows up with a leaf blower, and the disguises of the hermit, Gus, Casey, and the fake sheriff are revealed. It was Betty who solved the mystery by putting together the clues and calling the real Sheriff.; Archie decides to enroll in "Bo and Gus's Paranormal Investigation Camp." In order to get the group rate, he convinces Jughead, Betty and Veronica to go with him. The gang borrows a "Mystery Mobile" van from Jughead's uncle, and Hot Dog tags along. They arrive at the camp and are getting settled in when a shadow threatening Betty scares Jughead and Hot Dog.; The monster gives the kids the slip and they start to attend the camp's seminars. Jughead gets hungry and decides to raid the kitchen, with Hot Dog's help. While there, they find nothing to eat but boxes of leaves and "Gooby Snax" -- a type of dog biscuit. That's when the leaf monster finds them and chases them to the lecture hall.
