While struggling with his ex-fiancées new lover, the monster gets stabbed and melts away - into a heap of bones.; Leonore Black is a beautiful woman, but also able to transform herself into a giant black widow spider. In this form she kills men who do harm to spiders: collectors and zoologists. The human black widow meets her fate when stung to death by a swarm of wasps.; "In the early days of the American west, towns seemed to spring up almost overnight..." When they are deserted later on, they become "ghost towns". A tourist visits such a ghost town, encountering actual ghosts.; "In 1897, Pierre Paitel, a painter, fell in love with Emilie, beautiful daughter of the count of Monceau..." The count forbids their relationship. The painter goes to Paris, the girl dies of broken heart, believing her lover forgot about her.
