Ten year old Chinatsu is at first wary of her awkward cousin who travels from the countryside to stay with the Kuramoto family. Then she discovers her cousin is a witch in training and can levitate on a broom.; At Makoto's first day of high school, her terrible sense of direction gives her and fellow student Nao a chance to bond.; The Kuramoto family is visited by Makoto's older sister Akane, who tries to teach Makoto a summoning spell.; As part of her witch training, Makoto starts to plant an herb and vegetable garden in the back of the house. But she becomes more interested in catching a wild pheasant that has taken up residence in the back yard.; To test her familiarity with the neighborhood, Makoto takes a walk around the area with only Chito as her guide. Chito, though, is more interested in taunting a neighborhood dog than with getting Makoto familiar with the area.; Makoto is visited by one of the local spirits, which freaks Chinatsu out.
