Deb is engaged to marry congressman Rand, but Carol arrives to say Rand is going to jilt Deb for her. Reporter Jeff pretends to be Deb’s new love interest to spare her humiliation but they fall in love for real.; Melissa’s married friend Beth sets her up on dates with Kirk, but Melissa finds she prefers reporter Ty. Melissa learns Beth was using her to cover up her affair with Kirk. Beth's husband Jim has a heart attack and Melissa asks Beth to pretend to be engaged to Kirk until he recovers. Ty thinks Melissa was deceiving him. Melissa discovers Kirk’s body and fears Ty killed him, while he believes she did. Eventually, someone else is arrested for the crime and Ty and Melissa reconcile. Beth promises to be a better wife to Jim.; Ellen dates fellow worker Cal but insists their relationship will never be serious because she’s more interested in a man like company executive Gordon. Cal tricks Gordon into thinking Ellen is the granddaughter of the company president so he’ll date her, and Ellen realises Gordon is a scheming snob. Cal confesses he is the president’s grandson and he and Ellen will be together.; Unemployed model-actress Glenna enlists in the Marines and falls in love with Sgt. Dustin. After they appear together in a camp show, Glenna gets an offer from producer Gorman but can’t accept it because she’s in the service. Jealous fellow Marine Agnes tricks Glenna into dining with Gorman and then brings Dustin to witness it. Dustin punches Gorman but everything is straightened out. Glenna and Dustin will serve their enlistments and then be married.
