Helen breaks up with Dick because she’s fallen in love with Army sgt. Gordon Evans. Gordon gives her an engagement ring but is then transferred out of state for training. Helen waits patiently but one day receives a telegram from Gordon breaking their engagement. Dick and Helen reconcile, but when Helen meets Gordon again, her feelings are unclear. Dan Williams; camp gossip suggests Dan is trying to curry favour with her father, and when he’s promoted, Lee suspects this is the case. She meets Cpl. Bob Parker and they fall in love, but she is afraid he’s also using her to advance his career. When Bob is badly injured in a car accident, she realises he loves her for herself and she reciprocates his feelings.
