Professor Zodiac, charged with murder, tells the court the story of Galio, a 15th Century scholar who discovered the Four Wonders of Alchemy, took the Elixir of Youth to remain young, but saw it wear off in the 20th Century. So he hid the Four Wonders, then went to the JSA to tell them where he had hid the items, which he did before he keeled over dead. However, Zodiac was in another room and overheard the conversation, and rushed out to find the objects, leaving his personal gold cane behind. The JSA realize they must find the objects before Zodiac does.; Professor Zodiac uses a special invention to scan 100 newspapers at a time, and discovers his first clue in the Gotham Globe that an odd occurance at the Gotham Terminal may mean the Philosopher's Stone may be there, so he disguises himself as The Alchemist and heads there. The Flash and Hawkman have the same idea and run into him at the terminal, but are captured. A millionaire discovers the Universal Solvent and is disintegrated, but the news alerts the Alchemist, Atom and Dr. Mid-nite, who race to the man's home. A struggle ensues, but the Alchemist overcomes the duo.; The Alchemist discovers the Top of Perpetual Motion at a top-spinning contest, but must battle Wonder Woman and Black Canary until the villain claims the top and overcomes them. Zodiac's testimony at the trial is interrupted again by some youngsters claiming to be the JSA, who are ushered out of court, and Zodiac continues his story, telling of a professor who accidently discovers the Elixir of Youth in a flower bed. GL attempts to capture the Alchemist, who throws his last alchemo-bomb at the Emerald Crusader, freezing the ray of his ring, and allowing the Alchemist to capture him.; The JSA members awake, tied to the Perpetual Motion Machine, and The Alchemist doffs his disguise and heads back to Gotham to surrender to the Police for the murder of Michaels and to demand a trial, knowing that the JSA will not be able to appear to testify against him. His testimony judges him guilty and he is sentenced to death. The JSA members drink the youth elixir, escape the perpetual motion machine and arrive at the courtroom in time for Zodiac to throw an alchemo bomb at them to retore them to adults. After a battle, Zodiac attempts to escape by plane, but crashes and dies.
