Veronica has dropped Archie for Reggie. Jughead suggests writing fake love notes and signing other girls' names to them to make Veronica jealous.; At a school talent contest, Archie does a Liberace imitation (as Liber-Archie), with the plan of having Jughead play a piano backstage while Archie mimes. Reggie finds out about the plan and does his best to sabotage the routine. However, the skit turns into a crowd-pleasing comedy and Archie and Jughead get first prize.; Reggie makes fun of Archie for wearing rubber boots and carrying an umbrella for his date with Veronica (at Veronica's request). Archie decides to ditch the boots and umbrella, but gets caught in the rain on his way to Veronica's, which just gets him in trouble with her.; Reggie has some trick glasses that make everything seem to be upside down. He slips the glasses on Moose while he's taking a nap, but the joke goes haywire after Moose wakes up.; Reggie calls in a loan to Archie by demanding use of his jalopy that evening. Archie plans on using Veronica's car to take her to the dance, but her father has forbidden her to drive for a month because of her bad driving. Reggie, according to his plan, then shows up and takes Veronica. Mr. Lodge then decides to let Archie borrow Veronica's car to take Betty to the dance.; In hobby shop class, Archie is building a windmill out of buttons, Reggie is building a castle out of marbles, and Jughead is building a railroad engine. Each one decides to sabotage one of the other's models, leading to a fist fight.; Betty is upset because Veronica often gets her picture in the newspaper. Reggie and Jughead come up with an idea to photograph Betty in a swimsuit standing in the surf on a freezing day. After getting doused by a large wave, Betty ends up recovering from pneumonia, but still doesn't get her picture in the paper.; Betty and Veronica are having a mysterious conversation involving numbers. When Mr. Weatherbee asks what they are studying, Veronica says they are just choosing some cute boys from the football team to invite to their party. They don't know their names, so they're just choosing them by their numbers.; Mr. Lodge is sick, but Reggie is playing his trumpet on his front step.
