The attempted theft of a valuable flower ties in with a theory that the Batman has about the Joker being involved in a series of crimes, and discovers that the Crime Clown is selling plans for crimes to other criminals.; Alfred recounts how he originally got the job as butler for Bruce Wayne, how he learned Batman and Robin's true identity, how he covered their dual identities from being discovered, and how he "saved", or so he thought, Batman's identity from a man named Noyes.; Batman inexplicably is affected by an explosion in an experimental electronics laboratory that reverses the atoms in his body.
