Capt. Scabbard leaves his apartment at the Bent Arms for a week and asks Sarge to keep an eye on it. The Desk Clerk then rents the room to a soldier's girlfriend. Before Capt. Scabbard is off the base, he meets Lt. Snavely and his new wife. They need a place to stay, So Scabbard offers him the use of his apartment while he's gone. Meanwhile, the janitor has told a couple of tramps that the apartment will be vacant, so they plan on staying there. Everyone shows up at once, as does Scabbard when his orders are canceled.; Sarge absent-mindedly puts Beetle on the list for promotion to Corporal. For this mistake, Sarge is demoted to private and Beetle runs him ragged. Eventually Capt. Scabbard decides he needs Sarge to keep up with running his office, so he restores him to his old rank.; A new major is assigned to this battalion. Beetle is assigned to clean up his room, but is mistaken for the major by two lieutenants, who Beetle cons into cleaning the room for him.; A librarian puts Killer in his place when he gets fresh with her.; Beetle puts his lit pipe in his back pants pocket during inspection.; Killer is disappointed when his date at the USO appears to be plain. After she does a quick makeover in the powder room, Killer doesn't recognize her as the same girl.; Beetle makes people jump when he squirts their windshields with a hose.
