Sesshomaru is confronted by Gozu and Mezu at the gateway to the realm of the dead. With Inuyasha seemingly dead, Naraku appears and fully taints the shard Hosenki possesses.; Inuyasha learns that the final shard fled to the realm of the dead to avoid Naraku, and the shade of Lord Hosenki the jewel master will not give it up to anyone.; Inuyasha battles Hosenki for possession of the jewel shard. The shard itself begins to taint, signalling that Naraku is nearby, lying in wait.; Strengthened by Hosenki's power, Naraku erects a barrier that even Inuyasha's sword can't penetrate. Using the Tenseiga, Sesshomaru passes unharmed through the gate.; Naraku wrests the final shard from Hosenki and prepares to abandon everyone in the land of the dead. Then Sesshomaru shows up.; Hosenki offers to add his demon power to the Tetsusaiga, but only if Inuyasha can cut his diamond skeleton.; Tetsusaiga absorbs Hosenki's power and, together with Sesshomaru, mortally wounds Naraku.; Naraku flees the realm of the dead and manages to escape destruction. He assigns Hakudoshi to seek out and destroy Kikyo once and for all.; Hakudoshi overruns the countryside with rat demons that multiply when struck in hopes of luring Kikyo out of hiding.; Kikyo plants a demon lure to attract the rats. Kagome and Inuyasha trace the lure to its source. Sango and Miroku confront Kohaku, who is guarding the mystic box that spawns the rats.
