When some boys tease her for playing with a doll, Dot relates a story about her uncle Branes giving her a mechanical doll named Jot that looks and acts just like her. After detailing several pranks that she and Jot pulled off, she then convinces the boys that she is, in fact, Jot rather than Dot, giving the boys a scare.; Dot's Uncle Sly, an expert in camouflage and disguise, brings Dot a polka-dotted kite as a gift. Since he won't be in town long, Dot insists on flying the kite right away. It soon gets caught in a tree on the property of Mr. Grumble, who has a reputation for not liking kids. Uncle Sly offers to buy her another kite, but Dot insists on getting the original back. Using Uncle Sly's disguises and camouflage equipment, they are able to get it back after several attempts. Uncle Sly is then frustrated to learn that after all their efforts, Dot has many other polka-dotted kites at home.; For winning a national eating contest, Lotta receives a cash prize in the mail. Excitedly, she runs out to splurge on food. However, each time she buys some food for herself, she encounters animals or people who are more hungry than she and ends up giving the food away. By day's end, she has spent all of the money, but given away everything without a crumb for herself. However, she feels wonderful having helped out others.; Reggie buys several novelty tricks to frustrate Richie and "test" his good-sportsmanship.; Dot pays Henry to help her remove a loose tooth, but Henry ends up knocking out one of his own in the process.; When the boys won't let Lotta and Dot use their boat, even removing the boat's bottom to prevent them from using it, the girls get even by convincing the boys that they have a boat of their own.; After a game of football, Richie invites his friends over to play with his trains. To their surprise, Richie has a real train in his back yard.
