Elaine’s boyfriend, diver Cliff, dies after she mocks his superstitious beliefs and she feels responsible. Elaine dates Dan but now she’s excessively superstitious herself. Elaine tricks Dan into not going down on a dive: her father takes his place and is injured. Elaine now admits superstition is foolish and will marry Dan.; Susie and her father operate a small airline in the Canadian bush. Their pilot Tom is suspicious when Jim is hired as a second pilot. Jim and Susie fall in love but she discovers he’s working for the competition. However, Tom uncovers Jim’s plan and Susie realises it’s Tom she loves after all.; Marge fears that she’ll be left to care for her mother alone if her brother Phil marries Peggy. Peggy says they won’t desert Phil’s mother, but Marge is distrustful. Marge feigns illness and Phil brings in his old friend Guy, a doctor. Marge and Guy fall in love, but she thinks he’s only pretending to care about her so that Phil can wed Peggy. Guy criticises Marge for her selfishness. Marge apologises to Peggy and urges her to marry Phil. Guy forgives Marge.; Singer Judy becomes engaged to pianist Bob. She breaks up with him when her Aunt Rhoda explains that she supported her husband when he was starting his music career, but was ditched “for someone young and pretty” when he became successful. Judy is sad but reconciles with Bob when she gets a role in a new musical he’s written.
