Kit runs her own ad agency. She belittles the competent work of account executive George just to assert her dominance. She agrees to have dinner with George, and is given a make-over by her secretary Ceil. George kisses Kit and although she likes it, she fires him. George starts his own agency and competes with Kit for a big account. The businessman says he wants them to work together on the campaign. Kit and George admit they are in love and decide on a professional and personal merger.; Waitress Anne clubs her lecherous boss with a frying pan, then accepts a ride with trucker Vic. They hear a radio broadcast accusing her of assault and robbery: she knows it was the counterman who stole the money after she left. Stopped by the police, Vic claims Anne is his sister. He takes her to the house he shares with his mother and sister. They fall in love, but Anne doesn’t want Vic to get involved in her troubles. She asks Leo to drop the robbery charges, but he says he wants her to pay for hitting him. However, Vic and the police overhear him, and Anne is cleared.; Ruth works in a fish cannery and hates it. Fellow worker Will says he also wants to get out, but is making plans for the future: he has saved almost enough money to buy a fishing boat. Ruth says that would be no life for her and rejects him. Ruth and her friend Doris are picked up by crooks Frankie and Vic, who try to coerce them into providing an alibi for a robbery they just committed. Ruth flees to Will’s boat and they sail away. They will soon be married.; Susan works as a secretary for Hal in his ad agency. She lives in Greenwich Village and falls in love with aspiring artist Raphael. Raphael exploits Susan: she works overtime and skimps on her own meals to give him money. Hal takes Susan to dinner and they spot Raphael with another woman. Hal tells Susan he knew Raphael was no good but wanted her to find out for herself. Hal punches the moocher and kisses Susan.
