Flint undertakes a mission to rescue recently captured General Bratton. He uncovers a plot to infiltrate allied GHQ with dopplegangers of captured officers, tangles with Gruber, and manages to make it back to his own lines in time to foil the plot.; Sam's squadron responds to cries for help from a convoy under air-attack in the channel. In the ensuing melee the Phantom Flyer comes to the rescue, only to pick up a fatal wound. Sam follows him back to his secret base and is present when he dies of his wounds. Recognises the Flyer as his squadron's invalided former commanding officer - Hoodoo Hart.; The Germans over-run the regiment, forcing them to retreat under fire. Tommy and Harry join the retreating columns and get seperated from their own unit. Harry's feet give out, forcing them to rest for a time.
