Dart and Loraine are rescued from their raft in the middle of the sea by a ship bound for Vancouver Island. Much later a sailor recognizes Dart as a pirate, a fight ensues and he is put in chains. He escapes in a small lifeboat and finds that Loraine has smuggled herself away too. They are shipwrecked and attacked by Kawitshin Indians.; Whiz Wallace and Elaine Kenyon are rescued by the magician Movak who takes them to the Grottoes of the Green Death where they battle many weird creatures and escape death-traps.
