Winkler's poison gas formula is stolen and sent to Germany, but it is the imperfect version.; The Vagabond, a master of disguise and daring, is the leader of the Valiants, his fellow Czechoslovakian freedom-fighters battling against the Nazis, as well as a pen pal to Steel Sterling. When Steel hears reports that the Vagabond has turned traitor, he investigates and finds that the hero has been imprisoned and replaced by an imposter.
