Veronica is suspicious of a young teen ostensibly collecting for charity. She has no sympathy when the girl is injured, and provokes the police to investigate. When she discovers that the family is in desperate straits, with the girl providing all their support, she takes the family under her wing and arranges a job for the girl.; Betty has the lead in a play with gorgeous visiting movie star Rock Bottom. A jealous Veronica spikes Betty's water jug with alum so that she loses her voice, and understudy Veronica replaces her. But Rock Bottom drinks from the same jug, so Veronica has to play a love scene with Rock's understudy, Dilton Doily.; Veronica is so impressed with Reggie's athletic accomplishments that Archie tries to match Reggie's performance. He does so badly that Coach Kleats benches him, giving him lots of time with Betty, whereupon Veronica decides that she wants him after all.; Disgusted with waiting for boys to call for dates, Betty and Veronica hire Dilton as their agent. All he manages for them is a date with Jughead, who's only in it for the food.; Archie is disgusted with how badly Veronica treats Betty, so Veronica makes it up by telling him to take Betty to a dance, while she goes with Reggie. At the dance Archie and Veronica get so jealous that they wind up together anyway.; Betty reads a medical encyclopedia, and soon convinces both herself and everyone else that they're suffering strange symptoms.; Veronica shows off how efficiently Mr. Lodge's troubleshooters can tackle any problem, and inadvertently has an elephant shipped to Jughead.; Veronica tricks Betty into thinking she has the symptoms of a rare disease. Miss Grundy turns the tables on Veronica.; Li'l Jinx follows her dad's advice on how to fight, but it doesn't work out well.
